Good gains continue with granite and marble as the import market begins to recover. Travertine looks static, other calcareous is weak, and slate suffers from China dropping its export of the stone by a third.

Editor's note: Joe Becker continues his report on the natural-stone segment of the St. Joseph Cathedral restoration in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Our trip to Italy on June 20-24 was another step in the long process of completing the project. We made a location visit last year to view materials the first time, so this trip was to check on fabrication and to view the progress of Cathedral-commissioned artist Cody Swanson.

SAN DIEGO – U.S. stone-product manufacturer sales (shipments plus imports) are estimated to increase by 1.5 percent to $6.1 billion this year, according to the new Catalina Report on Natural and Manufactured Stone Product Industry Report 2010.
