VERONA, Italy – The 2008 edition of Marmomacc confirmed the event as the top stone-industry event … but not a record-setting one.

Initial reports from VeronaFiere, the show’s producer, reported that more than 63,000 attendees walked the aisles of the massive show on Oct. 2-5. That included a large international contingent, with 44 percent of the event visitors coming from outside Italy’s borders.

Although the crowds weren't record-setting at Marmomacc, attendance remained steady
While a count of 63,000 attendees clearly outpaces any other stone event in the world, Marmomacc 2008 failed to match last year’s record total of more than 65,000.
Event attendees did see a record number of exhibitors – 1,536, up 1.7 percent from 2007 – from 54 countries. The full use of VeronaFiere’s 10 existing halls and the PalaExpo space totaled a record exhibition space of 76,000 m² -- an area equal to 14 NFL regulation fields (including sideline markings and end zones).
"This edition - despite the world economic situation - went far beyond our expectations, confirming the exhibition as a vital appointment for trade operators in the natural stone field, from machinery to instrumental products, from blocks to more-complex processing, as well as for the construction sector and the contract field," said Luigi Castelletti, VeronaFiere president.
