Page 1 of 7 Choosing the top work for this year’s Best of Home competition again proved to be tougher than usual ... namely because entrants weren’t cutting us any slack in submitting great projects.
It’s tough to make the picks, as small bathroom projects showed the same type of meticulous craftsmanship as massive home makeovers. The final choices in the following pages are the best of the best.
Stone Business would like to thank all the shops for their submissions this year … and it’s only a few months until the 2008 competition begins.

If this home looks like something plucked from Europe, there’s a good reason: The clients, inspired by architecture seen through their travels, worked with the designer to build their own castle-like residence on Lake Mendota. The Olde English character is enhanced by Vetter’s Minnesota-quarried limestone; it’s used in features ranging from the stone tower to multiple stone stairways. The $3.7 million in stonework also includes five custom-carved fireplace mantels and ornamental gargoyles.
